The Day's Work is Done
Thù’a Thiên-Huề Province, Vietnam
After a morning hike through the City of Ghosts in Thù’a Thiên-Huề Province, Vietnam, looking at the amazing tombs, we stopped at a Seaside beach cafe for lunch. Not far away, we found this fleet of fishing boats in from their morning fishing expeditions.
The South China Sea is part of the Pacific Ocean, encompassing an area from the Karimata and Malacca Straits to the Strait of Taiwan of around 1.4 million square miles. The Sea carries tremendous strategic importance; one-third of the world's shipping passes through it carrying over $3 trillion in trade each year, it contains lucrative fisheries that are crucial for the food security of millions in Southeast Asia, and huge oil and gas reserves are believed to lie beneath its seabed.
In China, the controversial body of water is called the "South Sea" and in Vietnam the "East Sea". Several countries have made competing territorial claims over the Sea including China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Thailand.
