Half Dome
Yosemite National Park, California
I love it when a plan comes together. I was excited that conditions cooperated to get this shot of the famous Half Dome at Yosemite National Park. The calm waters provided a great reflection as the sun set providing a warm glow on the rock face. The only downside was numb feet as I stood in the middle of the cold river waiting for the sun to get to the perfect spot for the shot.
Half Dome is a granite dome named for its distinct shape at the eastern end of Yosemite Valley. One side is a sheer face while the other three sides are smooth and round, making it appear like a dome cut in half. The granite crest rises more than 4,700 feet above the valley floor. George Anderson was the first to summit in October, 1875 using a route constructed by drilling and placing iron eyebolts into the granite.
